Fix Minecraft Error 0x80073CFB: The Nuclear Option That Actually Works
Can't reinstall or update Minecraft from the Microsoft Store? Getting error 0x80073CFB? This is the fix when normal troubleshooting fails.
🔍 The Diagnosis
You're here because:
- You can't reinstall Minecraft from the Microsoft Store
- Updates keep failing with error code 0x80073CFB
- You've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling — didn't work
- Windows Update and Store reset didn't help
This is the "Nuclear Option" — we're going to manually delete the leftover package files that Windows refuses to clean up, then reset the Store. This works when everything else fails.
🛠️ The Fix
Follow these steps exactly as shown in the screenshots:
Navigate to the Packages Folder
First, we need to find where Windows hides the leftover Minecraft files.
Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, then type %localappdata% and hit Enter.
In the folder that opens, navigate to the Packages folder.
Delete the Minecraft Package Folder
Inside the Packages folder, look for a folder that starts with Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_ followed by a bunch of random letters and numbers.
⚠️ Important: If you have worlds or saves you want to keep, back them up first!
Right-click the folder and Delete it. This removes the corrupted package data that's blocking reinstallation.
Reset the Microsoft Store
Now we need to reset the Microsoft Store to clear any cached download data.
Press Win + R again, type cmd and hit Enter to open Command Prompt.
Type the command below and press Enter. The Microsoft Store will automatically open when the reset is complete — that's normal.
wsreset.exe
Done! Restart and Reinstall
Restart your PC, then open the Microsoft Store and try installing Minecraft again. The error should be gone and the installation should complete successfully.
